The opportunity to learn another language is cherished at St Mary’s. Many of our pupils speak other languages at home and at school, and are very proud to share these with us. Learning French gives all children the opportunity to develop this important skill. We believe that learning another language, such as French, develops a child’s understanding of other cultures and their love of all languages. French is taught to children throughout the school.
Each child, from Reception to Year 6, has a weekly lesson with our French teacher, a native speaker. Children learn aspects of vocabulary and language structure which are linked to topics that they are studying in other curriculum areas. The French teacher also holds after school French Clubs for children in both Key Stages. These are very well attended.
