Monday 1st June
Good morning lovely children. I hope that you had a fantastic half term with your family. I have recorded a welcome back video for you! It is now Summer 2, which is our last half term together in Reception! I will see some of you back at school soon and some of you through our class page, videos and emails. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1jbJ2nl25g
What is the date today? It is the start of another new month. Can you sing ‘The Months of the Year’ song to work out what it is? I have taken a picture of our board. Remember to use a full sentence! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5enDRrWyXaw
Daily Prayer: Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Maths: This week we will be learning about counting and ordering numbers.
Day 1: Collect 20 items of the same object from your home e.g. pasta pieces, toys. Ask your adult to choose a number from 0-20. Count out that many objects. Repeat this for a variety of numbers. Remember to put them in a line and say one number for each object that you touch. Please keep the objects for the weeks learning.
Key questions: Can you say how many objects you have in a full sentence? Can you write the numeral?
Phonics: Join in with the video and go over the Set 1, 2 and 3 sounds. Look at the letter(s) and say the sound that they make. Sound out words that have these sounds in e.g. can, too, with. Use your ‘Fred Fingers’ pinching each finger while you say each sound, before blending it together e.g. c-a-n can. Listen to the red words and repeat them. Remember that we can’t sound out red words. Have a go at writing the words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi85efnc5hU
Literacy: Listen to the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. Listen out for any ‘repeated refrains’ (phrases said again and again). Can you think of any actions to go with the words? Ask your adult to explain any words that you don’t understand. Make masks/puppets and role play the story. What do the characters do? What do the characters say? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQazB0faGX8
Idea of the day: Make a rain stick. Use an empty tube e.g. kitchen roll, and cover the bottom with tape. Roll two pieces of tin foil to make spirals (make one thicker and one thinner). Put these inside your tube. Pour half a cup of rice/dried beans into your tube. Cover the top of your tube with tape. Decorate your rain stick. Explore making music. Can you make up your own rhythm? Can you play and dance along to your favourite song?
I hope that you managed to have a nice half term and that you and your loved ones are safe and well. As school starts to re-open and some children return I will continue to post activities each weekday: the date, maths, phonics, literacy and an ‘idea of the day’. There will also be an R.E. activity once a week. Children in school will be learning through the same activities. I know that you will have made the decision that is right for your family.
Please only do what is appropriate for your child and your family. For some of you that may be one activity a day, for others it may be all of the activities and extra ideas previously suggested. You know what is best. I know from speaking to some of you, you are all doing a fantastic job and at a very difficult time.
As always, please continue to share pictures of activities that you have been doing and ask me any questions. I would love to hear from you. Please email me on email@example.com
Alternatively, you can contact me through the school office on firstname.lastname@example.org
