Wisdom & Faith

Mon 8th June

Monday 8th June

Good morning lovely children. I hope that you had a good weekend. What is the date today? I have taken a picture of our board. Remember to use a full sentence!

Daily Prayer: Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Maths: This week we will be learning about one more and one less.

  • Star words you will need: one more, one less, add, subtract, take away, count, number, object, number line

Day 1: Today we will be focusing on: one more. Collect 20 items of the same object from your home e.g. pencils, toys. Use your number cards from last week’s learning. Choose a number card from 0-20. Count out that many objects. Show one more than the number by adding one more object. Count how many objects you have now. Say how many objects you have e.g. “I started with 12. I added one more. Now I have 13. One more than 12 is 13.” Repeat this for a variety of numbers. Please keep the objects for the weeks learning.

Key questions: Can you show one more than a number using objects? Can you say one more than a number in a full sentence?

Phonics: Join in with the video and go over the Set 1, 2 and 3 sounds. Look at the letter(s) and say the sound that they make. Sound out words that have these sounds in e.g. got, will, help. Use your ‘Fred Fingers’ pinching each finger while you say each sound, before blending it together e.g. g-o-t got. Listen to the red words and repeat them. Remember that we can’t sound out red words. Have a go at writing the words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48AZcsXNhis

Literacy: Listen to the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. Listen out for any ‘repeated refrains’ (phrases said again and again). Can you think of any actions to go with the words? Ask your adult to explain any words that you don’t understand. Make masks/puppets and role play the story. What do the characters do? What do the characters say? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6G43USF3Iw

The Three Billy Goats Gruff read aloud

Idea of the day: Design a bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff. You could use a pencil and paper or technology e.g. an iPad, laptop. Use objects from your home to build it. You could use junk modelling, Lego, Duplo etc. Take a picture of your creation.

Bonus idea: Today is ‘World Oceans Day’. Watch the live broadcast at 10am with the Environment Agency and the World Wildlife Fund https://learnliveuk.com/world-oceans-day/ Find out about oceans and World Oceans Day https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/44416808

This year the focus is on plastic pollution. Plastic pollution is when plastic objects end up in the oceans. This can damage the oceans and hurt the wildlife in it. It is important to put rubbish in bins. If you can’t find a bin, then take your rubbish home with you. We can try and use less plastic and when we do, we use recycling bins. Make a poster on how to help stop plastic pollution. You could draw pictures and label them or write sentences.

Key questions:

  • How might the oceans have become polluted with litter?
  • Where do you think the rubbish comes from?
  • What can we do to help stop plastic pollution?
