Good morning Year 1! Today is Monday 11th May. We are now in Summer Term week 4.
I hope you all had a wonderful extra long weekend and enjoyed some of the glorious sunshine. You all deserved a long break as you have been working so hard!
I have been loving the sunny weather. Friday was an extra special day because it was a day when we said thank you to the people who served in a war a long time ago. They did things to keep us all safe today. How wonderful is that? Lots of people where I live had bunting outside their homes and celebrated with tea and cake. Did you see any flags or bunting?
I baked a cake called a Victoria Sponge Cake. It was very yummy!
This morning you have Liturgy. Today you have English, Maths and RE tasks to complete. I hope you have a super day!
Let's start the day with a prayer.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Phonics and handwriting
Please aim for 30 minutes (15 each) of handwriting and phonics per day.
This week we will be learning about a thing called a suffix. A suffix is a word part that's added to the end of a root word to change the meaning.
We will be focusing on the suffixes ing and ed.
Today we will be learning about the suffix 'ing'. Have a look through the PowerPoint's and get practising!
Today in English we will be enjoying the story This is the House that Jack Built and will then recall the events in the story. The focus today will be to write three sentences describing three other animals in story using a describing word.
Remember a describing word tells us more about a person or thing. For example; The cat was fluffy. The describing word is fluffy, we now know more about the cat.
Make sure you use your golden sentences using capital letters, full stops and fingers with beautiful handwriting.
Today's activity focuses on doubling numbers.
Please refer to the White Rose website under Summer term - Week 1 to watch the learning video for Lesson 1: Make doubles.
Get warmed up practising your doubles!
Today's activity focuses on the Pentecost story and how the coming of the Holy Spirit changed everyone.
Pentecost happened 50 days after Easter Sunday and it is a very special time in the Bible when the disciples and other Christians received the Holy Spirit.
The disciples and other Christians had come together to thank God and suddenly a sound like the blowing of a strong wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Next they saw tongues of fire that separated and came to rest of each of them. When the tongues of fire came they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in different languages.
We receive the Holy Spirit when we accept Christ or become Christians. The special thing about having the Holy Spirit is that God never leaves us so we can talk to him or ask for help anytime.
The Holy Spirit actually helps us in many ways, he comforts, teaches and gives us strength.
