Key questions to ask your child and get them to answer in full sentences!

Practise saying the sounds everyday with your child

  • Practise holding a pencil correctly
  • Practise writing each letter correctly   
  • Practise writing words from 45 high frequency words for Reception
  • Playing with playdough strengthens pencil grip
  • Threading also helps for a better grip – threading laces through a shoe (if you don’t have any other threading resources)
    SOUND to learn today: air

  1. Practise writing words with ay in them - for example: stair, fair, air, hair, chair….
  2. Sound out each word for example: s-t-air
  3. Use your fingers to show how many sounds there are in a word or example s-t-air will show 3 fingers
  4. Ask your child how many letters in the word – for example stair has 5 letters
  5. Ask your child how many sounds in the word – for example s-t-air has 3 sounds
  1. Write about what you did over the weekend and draw a picture beside it.
  2. Using your phonics to sound out each word. Spelling words phonetically is still correct!

Let's sound out some 'air' words! If you would like your children to sound out independently, simply mute the video.


  • Count 0-30 - forwards and backwards
  • Practising writing the numbers 0-30 correctly
  • Practise putting numbers in order

  • Give your child two amounts (using objects, counters, pasta, lego, pictures anything you have available at home) and ask them to add them together and write the number sentence.

  1. Read and or listen to the story: “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. We will be doing work this week based on the story.
  2. Can you think of any actions to go with the words?
  3. Parents please explain and words your children do not know or understand.
  4. You could also read the story in your home language.
  5. Re-tell the story in full sentences. Can you remember the repeat phrases?
  6. Make puppets or face masks or bowls and chairs in your house and act out the story!

This week we will be learning about height.


Key words you will need: measure, height, tall, short, taller, shorter, tallest, shortest, describe, compare


  1. Listen to the video about height.
  2. We will be focusing on these ways to describe height: tall, short. Say the key words.
  3. Can you explore height in your home? Choose objects and decide if they are tall or short.
  4. How do you know? Can you measure them by making a tower of cubes e.g. Lego/Duplo/blocks? Or with a ruler or measuring tape?
    Key questions: How would you describe the height of the object? Is your object tall or short? How do you know? How tall is the object?
