Practise saying the sounds everyday with your child

  • Practise holding a pencil correctly
  • Practise writing each letter correctly   
  • Practise writing 4 words from 45 high frequency words for Reception

  • Write one sentence for each word


NEW SOUND to learn today: oi - Spoil the boy

practise writing words with ear in them - for example: boil, spoil, oil,….




  • Count 0-20 - forwards and backwards
  • Practising writing the numbers 0-20 correctly
  • Practise putting numbers in order
  • Focus on number 10 - write number 10
  • Find and circle number 10 in a mixture of numbers
  • Show 10 by drawing 10 objects - for example draw 10 girls, count the girls and write number 10 beside it, draw 10 flowers, count and write number 10 beside it, do this 5 times (your child can pick  objects they what to draw - girls and flowers are just my examples).



  1. Write a few simple sentences about what you did over the Easter break and draw a picture.
  2. Read the Story : The Enormous Turnip - we will be doing work this week based on the story.


This week we will be learning about 2D shapes.

Words to learn:

2D shape, flat, corner, sides, straight, curved

Triangle, Square, Rectangle, Circle, Pentagon and Hexagon.


  1. Draw or print out 2d shapes - point to each shape and name them.
  2. Point to the sides and corners of each shape.
  3. Can you name each shape?
  4. Can you count how many sides each shape has?
  5. Can you count how many corners each shape has?


Keep the shapes for the rest of the week's work.


Make a collage.

Collect scrap material from your home - news paper, magazines, recycling cardboard.

Cut or stick them to make different shapes.


Or use materials in the home - pencils, pasta, laces, playdough to make 2d shapes!
