Good morning Year 1! Today is Monday 8th June. We are now in Summer Term 2 week 2.

I hope you all had a great weekend and have lots of stories to tell. I'm looking forward to hearing from you during Show and tell.

Today is a special Monday because it is World Oceans Day. This day is about celebrating our magnificent oceans and about how we can protect them. Watch the video's below to learn more about oceans.

This morning you have Liturgy. Today you have Grammar, English, Maths and RE tasks to complete. Keep on making me proud with your wonderful work.

Let's start the day with a prayer.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Phonics and handwriting

Please aim for 30 minutes (15 each) of handwriting and phonics per day.

Play the guess my word game to try to see if you can spell numbers 0-20.

Enjoy the reading of Handa’s Hen by Eileen Browne. Look at Handa's Number Sentences. Read each sentence and write in the missing number word on each one: I saw two butterflies. Write in any missing animal names too. Check with the Animal Pictures if you get stuck.

English- Task 1- Handa’s Number Sentences

Maths: Today we are going to review our measurement knowledge on length and height.

Review these words:
long, longer, longest, short, shorter, shortest,
tall, taller, tallest, high, higher, highest

Can you remember what non-standard units are? Can you remember what standard units are?

Measuring Length and Height

In this video, we learn to compare length and height using the correct words. We also learn about the different ways we can measure by using non-standard units and standard units.

Refer to the videos below for additional learning on measuring length and height.

Today we are starting a new topic on 'Being Sorry.' What does it mean to be sorry? Go through the learning slides and read the stories of Levi and Zacchaeus the tax collectors. Follow the question guide to have a discussion on what choices Levi and Zacchaeus made.

Stories of Levi and Zacchaeus

For today's task think of some times when you made good choices and wrong choices. Draw pictures and write a sentence to describe what is happening. Also, think of ways you can show that you are sorry to others.
