Communication and language
This involves allowing children opportunities to develop their speaking and listening skills, as well as their understanding and attention through role play, listening to stories and communicating with adults and other children.
Children partake in activities developing their fine and gross motor skills. The nursery and reception have their own sheltered outdoor area as well as a separate small playground where they use large equipment such as bikes, balls and climbing frames. Through activities such as threading and cutting they acquire the necessary control to begin to draw, form numbers and letters.
Personal, social and emotional development
This is an extremely important area of development for young children. In nursery and reception children are encouraged to develop positive self image and understanding of how to look after themselves. They are taught how to work appropriately alongside peers and in collaboration with other children. They are taught to recognise and control their own emotions and to be aware of how their behaviour affects others feelings and emotions.
