Wisdom & Faith

Thurs 11th June

Thursday 11th June

Good morning wonderful children. What is the date today? I have taken a picture of our board. Remember to use a full sentence!

Daily Prayer: Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Maths: This week we will be learning about one more and one less.

  • Star words you will need: one more, one less, add, subtract, take away, count, number, object, number line

Day 4: Today we will be focusing on: one less. Choose a number card from 0-20. Find it and circle it on a number line. Show one less than the number by doing one jump backwards. Circle the number that you ‘land’ on. Say which number you land on e.g. “I started with 11. I did one jump back on the number line. I landed on 10. One less than 11 is 10.” Repeat this for a variety of numbers. Can you show one less using objects?

Key questions: Can you show one less using a number line? Can you say one less than a number in a full sentence? Can you show one less than a number using objects?

Using a Number Line to Show One Less Example

Number Line to Print/Draw

Phonics: Join in with the video and spell words with the Set 2 sound ou. Say the word out loud. Have a go at sounding it out to work out how many sounds are in the word e.g. sh-ou-t shout (3 sounds). Hold up that many ‘Fred Fingers’. Say the word. Sound it out and ‘pinch’ your fingers with each sound. Write the word. Underline the ‘special friend’ ‘ou’. Check your sounds with me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1w8TSNXtmc

Literacy: Re-tell to the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. What happens in the story? What do the characters do? What do they say? Make a story map to show what happens in the story. Use arrows to show the next part in the story. Your pictures don’t have to be the same as mine but they may give you some ideas. Remember that you can repeat the pictures for repeated refrains. Can you label your pictures? Remember to use your ‘Fred Fingers’ when sounding out your words.

Idea of the day: Listen to the story ‘The Troll’ by Julia Donaldson. Which troll do you like best? The troll from ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ or ‘The Troll’? Why? What is the same about the trolls? What is different about the trolls? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZxWt4cFAyE
