Thursday 2nd July
Good morning wonderful children. What is the date today? I have taken a picture of our board. Remember to use a full sentence!
Daily Prayer: Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Maths: This week we will be learning about doubling.
Day 4: Doubling means adding equal amounts. This is a type of addition called repeated addition where you add the same amount. You count how many objects you have and add the same amount. Draw a domino with a line down the middle. Choose a number between 1-10. Draw that many dots on the left side of the domino. Double your dots by putting the same amount of dots on the right side of the domino. Count all the dots to work out the double. Say it in full sentences. E.g. “Double 10. 10 dots on the left side of the domino. 10 dots on the right side of the domino. There are 20 dots altogether. Double 10 is equal to 20.” Repeat this for a variety of numbers. Challenge: Can you write it as an equation? E.g. 10 + 10 = 20.
Key questions: Can you double an amount? How many dots are on the left side of the domino? How many dots are on the right side of the domino? How many dots are there altogether? Can you say it in a full sentence?
Phonics: Join in with the video and spell words with the Set 3 sound aw. Say the word out loud. Have a go at sounding it out to work out how many sounds are in the word e.g. y-aw-n yawn (3 sounds). Hold up that many ‘Fred Fingers’. Say the word. Sound it out and ‘pinch’ your fingers with each sound. Write the word. Underline the ‘special friend’ ‘aw’. Check your sounds with me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOcMhIOq4Z0
Literacy: Re-tell to the story ‘Hansel and Gretel’. What happens in the story? What do the characters do? What do they say? Make a story mountain to show what happens in the story. Draw an outline of a mountain and draw the main parts of the story. Your pictures don’t have to be the same as mine but they may give you some ideas. Can you label your pictures? Remember to use your ‘Fred Fingers’ when sounding out your words.
Idea of the day: Listen to the story ‘Tidy’ by Emily Gravett. What is special about the forest? How can we look after it? Compare the forest to another area e.g. a park or our school. What is the same about the environments? What is different? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUSQEPbc8Mc
