Thursday 2nd July

Morning Message 02.07.20

Happy Birthday to Leonardo! We all hope you have a wonderful day. Six years old today, so grown up! We will all sing Happy Birthday to you!

Let's start the day with a prayer.

The Lord's prayer, or Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  Amen.

Phonics and handwriting

Please aim for 30 minutes (15 each) of handwriting and phonics per day.

This week we are learning about contractions.

Now that you've (you have) been learning about contractions all week let's (let us) see how well you understand! Today's task has two parts.

1. Write the words that each contraction stands for.

2. Write the correct contraction for each set of words.

Don't (do not) forget your spelling test is tomorrow.

Read the poem The Secret Song by Margaret Wise Brown. The poem is made up of a series of questions and answers. Highlight each question sentence in the poem in one colour and each answer sentence in another.

Look at the page of Question Words and Question Marks. Read, then write out each question word three times in your neatest handwriting.

Name the animals that were mentioned in The Secret Song.

  • Think of five new animals you like or know.
  • Draw these animals in the boxes on Questions for Animals.
  • Write a question that you would ask each animal. E.g., Where do you go at night, Badger? What do you eat, Ladybird?
  • Finish your sentences with question marks.
  • Can you use a different question word each time?

Listen to the song version of this poem!

Take a look at some landscapes by famous artist Vincent Van Gogh.

Can you draw your own landscape?
