Practise saying the sounds everyday with your child

igh – fly high

 

Let’s look at these tricky sounds in more detail.

 

  1. Practise writing words with ay in them - for example: high, light, night. Sight, height, fright, bright, might…
  2. Sound out each word for example: b-r-igh-t
  3. Use your fingers to show how many sounds there are in a word or example b-r-igh-t will show 4 fingers (please note there maybe less sounds than number of letters)
  4. Ask your child how many letters in the word – for example bright has 6 letters
  5. Ask your child how many sounds in the word – for example bright has 4 sounds

Phonics Song 2

It's a phonics song with a picture for each letter. This is designed to help children learn the sounds of the letters in the English alphabet.

  • Air writing – call out letters of the alphabet and your child will point their finger and write the letter in the air!
  • Practise hand writing
     
    Numbers
  • Count 0-20 - forwards and backwards
  • Practising writing the numbers 0-20 correctly
  • Practise putting numbers in order
  • Focus on number 18 - write number 18
  • Find and circle number 18 in a mixture of numbers
  • Show 18 by drawing 18 objects - for example draw 18 girls, count the girls and write number 18 beside it, draw 18 flowers, count and write number 18 beside it, do this 5 times (your child can pick objects they what to draw - girls and flowers are just my examples).
     

 

English

 

  1. Write sentences to explain what you would take to the moon like the story ‘Whatever Next!’.
  2. What will you need? Why do you want to bring it?

Remember to use your fingers when sounding out your words.

You might want to start your sentences “I will need…” e.g. I wil need a mat. I wil need a snack.

Challenge: Can you extend your sentences using the joining words ‘and’ or ‘because’?

 

Maths

 

This week we will be learning about 3D shapes.

Words to learn:

3D shape, solid, height, width, depth, face, edge, vertex/vertices, point, straight, curved, cylinder, cube, cuboid, sphere, cone, pyramid

 

  1. Play the ‘What’s in the bag?’ game.
  2. Put the shapes you found/made into a bag.
  3. Take out one at a time. Can you name the shape? Talk about its features e.g. it has square faces so it’s a cube.
  4. Ask your adult to take out a shape and describe its features. Can you guess what shape it is?
     
    Key questions: What is the shape called? How do you know? Can you find any 2D shapes that make up the 3D shape? Does the shape have vertices? Can you count the vertices (points)?
     

Understanding the world

  1. How can with look after our animals and keep them safe?
    Can you write a 5 sentences on how we can look after animals?
     
  2. How can we look after the world?
    Can you write a 5 sentences on how we can look after our world?
     
    Remember: Reuse, Recycle and Reduce!

Daily Task

Count and name any red objects in your home/outside

Count and name any blue objects in your home/outside

Count and name any black objects in your home/outside

Count and name any white objects in your home/outside

Count and name any green objects in your home/outside
