Thursday 7th May

Good Morning Year 2

Challenge:  Listen to the audio of me reading the morning message.  Can you read along as I speak?

Miss Writer's Morning Message

Today is Thursday 7th May, 2020 and it is very nearly the weekend!  This Friday is actually a Bank Holiday so you will have a nice long break.

Miss Pluckrose has sent you another letter to read over the weekend.

This weekend is a special weekend and on Friday you will see lots of celebrations about Victory in Europe Day.  I have added some extra activities for you to do over the long weekend.  My nephew sent me a superb video of him, which he sent onto his great grandma of him with his VE Day bunting and singing a song he had learnt.  Maybe you could do something similar at home.

I hope you liked the video of Chickpea.

Have a lovely long weekend.

Joke of the Day!

What do you call two birds in love?

Tweethearts!

Start the day at 9am with PE with JOE

Morning Prayer

Father in heaven You love me.

You are with me night and day.

I want to love You always,

In all I do and say.

I'll try to please You Father.

Bless me through the day.

Amen

Your tasks today:

Activity 1 - Maths

Go to Lesson 4 - Add and subtract ones

1.  Listen to the video and answer the questions.

2. Get the Activity.  Complete the questions.

3.  Check your answers.  Did you get it right?

Activity 2 - English

Today we are going to practise handwriting again!

1.  Read this poem called Lifecycle of a Flowering Plant.

2.  Using your best handwriting, write out the poem in your book.  If you need more help, ask if you can print it out and trace over the poem.

3.  Finally, practise reading the poem with expression.  When you feel confident, read it to someone in your house (make sure they give you a clap at the end!)

Take your time doing this.  Maybe, finish it off over the weekend.

Activity 3 - History

This week we will watch a video of an account from Florence Nightingale.

1.  Watch this video of Florence Nightingale.

What do you think it was like to be her?  What do you think it was like to train other nurses?  What do you think it was like to work at night with a lamp?  What were the conditions like in the hospital?

2.  In your books, write a diary entry as Florence Nightingale.

Can you describe what it was like to work in the hospital? What did she do?  What were the conditions like?  What was it like for the soldiers?

Look at the Diary Checklist to help you.

Remember, YOU are the Florence Nightingale (the writer).

Activity 4 - VE Day Celebrations

Tomorrow is Victory in Europe Day and it will be celebrated on 8th May. On Friday, 8th May everyone will fall silent at 11am to recognise VE Day.

You have a choice which activity you would like to complete.

Read through the lesson on Victory in Europe Day or watch the video (10 mins).

Now you know a little more about VE Day, you could try one of these fun activities for Friday:

1. Design a Special Medal

2. Make your own VE Day Bunting

3. Learn a song for VE Day - We'll Meet Again

"We'll Meet Again" is a 1939 British song made famous by singer Vera Lynn. The song is one of the most famous of the Second World War era, and resonated with soldiers going off to fight and their families and sweethearts.

4. Host your own VE Day tea party on Friday 8th May

Ask an adult first and for help - make some tea and sandwiches.  Put up your bunting and wear your medal and sing the song you've learnt.

We'll meet again

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day

Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies chase
Those dark clouds far away

And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That, as I saw you go
You were singing this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day

And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That, as I saw you go
You were singing this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day
