Good morning Year 1! Today is Thursday 7th May. We are now in Summer Term week 3.

Today is the last day of the week even though it is Thursday. This is because tomorrow is a bank holiday which means we get an extra long weekend!  You have all worked extremely hard this week and deserve a rest.

I thought I would share a funny picture of my dog after a bath. She doesn't look too impressed does she!

Today you have a spellings test, English, Maths and Art/PSHE tasks to complete. Have an excellent day!

Today's Tasks

  • Phonics, spelling test and handwriting.
  • English
  • Maths
  • Art/PSHE

Let's start the day with a prayer.

The Lord's prayer, or Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  Amen.

Please see the below letter from Miss Pluckrose.

Phonics and handwriting

Please aim for 30 minutes (15 each) of handwriting and phonics per day.

Today is your spelling test, time to show your mummies and daddies how clever you are! Please see the new spellings words in the page below.

In today's lesson you will discuss what was different and what was the same in the two stories We’re Going on a Lion Hunt and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. The task is to then learn the lines from We’re Going on a Lion Hunt. Remember to use a loud, strong storytelling voice!

English- Task 1: We’re Going on a Lion Hunt.

Today's activities focus on adding 10, 20 and 30 to 1-digit and 2-digit numbers and subtracting 10, 20 and 30 from 2-digit numbers.

Remember we've learned that when we add 10 on a number square we go down 1 box and when we add 20 we go down 2 boxes. Now we will try to add 30 by going down 3 boxes. When we add our number gets bigger.

If I have 5 and I add 10 then it is 15. If I add 20 to 5 its 25. If I add 30 to 5 its 35.

Remember we've learned that when we subtract 10 on a number square we go up 1 box and when we subtract 20 we go up 2 boxes. Now we will try to subtract 30 by going up 3 boxes. When we subtract our number gets smaller.

If I have 50 and I take away 10 its 40. If I have 50 and I take away 20 its 30. If I have 50 and I take away 30 its 20.

Maths- Task 2- Add and subtract 10, 20 and 30

Today we will be learning about how we are all special but how each of us is different. How wonderful is that? Think about what makes you different from other children and what makes you special. You will then be drawing a self portrait of your beautiful faces. Have fun! I'm looking forward to seeing these wonderful portraits already!

This week's homework is to have fun creating some art. Click on splat for more information. Follow the link below to get your weekly spellings. We will be learning about words that end with a suffix; ing and ed.
