  1. Practise writing words with ay in them - for example: girl, bird, third, whirl, dirt, first…
  2. Sound out each word for example: g-ir-l
  3. Use your fingers to show how many sounds there are in a word
  4. Ask your child how many letters in the word – for example girl has 4 letters
  5. Ask your child how many sounds in the word – for example g-ir-l has 3 sounds

  1. Re-listen to the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. Listen out for any ‘repeated refrains’ (phrases said again and again). Did you act out the story yesterday?
  2. Can you make a story map of the story and label the parts that you draw.



This week we will be learning about height.

  • Key words you will need: measure, height, tall, short, taller, shorter, tallest, shortest, describe, compare
  1. Listen to the video about height.
  2. Today we will be focusing on these ways to describe height: taller, shorter. Say the star words.
  3. Can you compare objects in your home? Choose two objects and decide which object is taller and which object is shorter. How do you know?
  4. Can you measure them by making a tower of cubes e.g. Lego/Duplo/blocks?
    Key questions: Can you compare the height of the objects? Which object is taller and which object is shorter? How do you know? How tall are the objects?
