A sound/letter sits in between the i and e


  1. Practise writing words with ay in them - for example: side, smile, white, hide, nice, like, time, bike…
  2. Sound out each word for example: l- i- k  e
  3. Use your fingers to show how many sounds there are in a word
  4. Ask your child how many letters in the word – for example like has 4 letters
  5. Ask your child how many sounds in the word – for example l- i- k  e has 3 sounds

  • Practise putting numbers in order

  1. Read and or listen to the story: “Dear Zoo”.
  2. Re-tell the story in full sentences. Can you remember the repeat phrases?
  3. Make a story map – draw pictures about what happens in the story and label.




This week we will be learning about length.

  • Star words you will need: measure, length, long, short, longer, shorter, longest, shortest, describe, compare
  1. Listen to the video about length.
  2. Today we will be focusing on these ways to describe length: longer, shorter.
  3. Say the star words.
  4. Can you compare objects in your home? Choose two objects and decide which object is longer and which object is shorter. How do you know?
  5. Can you measure them by making a tower of cubes e.g. Lego/Duplo/blocks?
    Key questions: Can you compare the length of the objects? Which object is longer and which object is shorter? How do you know? How long are the objects?
