SOUND to practise today: i_e

  1. Practise writing words with the sound in them - for example: nice, smile, bike, hide, kite…
  2. Can you think of anymore words with i_e in them?
  3. Sound out each word for example: n –i- c e
  4. Use your fingers to show how many sounds there are in a word
  5. Ask your child how many letters in each of the words listed above and any other words your child can think of – for example nice has 4 letters
  6. Ask your child how many sounds in each of the words listed above and any other words your child can think of – for example n –i- c e has 3 sounds.

English

  1. Recap the monsters and their emotions. What does each colour mean?
  2. Draw and colour a fearful Colour Monster.
  3. Which colour are you going to use?
  4. Draw things that the Colour Monster might find scary. What makes you feel afraid? For example, being alone, spiders
  5. Add these things to your picture.
  6. Can you label your drawings? Remember to sound out each word.
  7. What can you do to help when you feel scared? For example, I can tell my mum/dad, friend, teacher, family…
  8. Make sure you tell someone when you feel like this.

Maths

This week we will be learning about subtraction.

  • Star words you will need: take away, subtract, subtraction, is equal to, equation, number, object, part, whole, part-part-whole model
     
  1. Listen to the nursery rhyme ‘10 green bottles’ https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p038bdqh
  2. Make/use 10 (green) bottles
  3. Choose a number between 0-10. Take away that many bottles.
  4. Count how many you have left. E.g. Start with 10 bottles and take away 3.
  5. Say it in a full sentence e.g. “I started with 10 bottles. I took 3 bottles away. I have 7 bottles left. 10 subtract 3 is equal to 7.
  6. Can you write it as an equation? E.g. “10 - 3 = 7”. Repeat this for a variety of numbers.
     
    Key questions: Can you subtract from 10 using bottles? How many different numbers can you subtract from 10? Can you say the equation in a full sentence? Can you write an equation?
