Good morning everyone! It is Tuesday 2nd June.

I hope you all had a good day, yesterday.

I was in school, organising our classroom so that it can be used for the children of Key Workers.

As I was organising, I found Ted, hiding in the book corner. I rescued him and brought him back to my house.

He says that he will send you a message tomorrow.

But for now, he asked me to tell you this joke...

 

Q:Why are teddy bears never hungry?

A: Because they are always stuffed!

1.  Listen to the video and answer the questions.

2. Open the worksheet below and answer the questions.

Activity 2 - English

Read the Question Booklet for Day 2.

1. It’s story time 

  • Listen to/watch the reading of Diary of a Wombat by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qMMhJ4iiu8 
  • Look again at Text Types. What sort of writing is Diary of a Wombat
  • Agree that Diary of a Wombat is fiction, a story and a diary. 

 

2. Spelling focus 

Look at the set of jumbled Days of the Week and read each one aloud. 

  • Cut up the cards and sequence the days correctly, Monday to Sunday. 
  • On My Days of the Week, practise spelling each word. Use a ‘look, cover, write, check’ method to help you get the spellings right. 
  • Remember that days of the week always start with a capital letter. 

 

3. Writing time 

Agree that Diary of a Wombat is told from the point of view of the wombat. 

  • Look at The Dust Bath. Write a sentence expressing what the wombat thinks about having a dust bath: I had a lovely refreshing dust bath, which really cheered me up. 
  • Would the family feel the same? No! Write a sentence expressing what the family feel. That annoying wombat ruined our barbecue! 
  • Write sentences for wombat and the family on The Mat and The Door. 

 

Fun Challenge:

Write about a real or made up day in the style of The Diary of a Wombat – Morning… sat around in pjs. Afternoon... played in the garden. Got muddy. Went indoors. Add some pictures to your diary.

Activity 3 - RE

Please read the text from Romans 8: 22-28 and answer the following questions:

  • How can we help each other do what is right?
  • Name some of the people you think pass on the Good News in their lives? (It may be saints or people in our families or our friends.)
  • If we act as God wants us to, what would the world be like? Why?

Pray together the following prayer to the Holy Spirit:

Come Holy Spirit
Fill us with your joy Fill us with your love Fill us with your peace
Help us to spread the Good News of
God’s love to everyone.  Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

  • Make a chart entitled Spreading the Good News of God’s Love. In the first column entitled fill us with put the following  words joy, love and peace. The second column entitled How I would show this to others. Let the children complete this column in their own words.

 

Challenge:

  • Decorate letters to make a banner -  'Go tell everyone the Good News!' Use red, the Pentecost colour.
