Tuesday 2nd June

Good Morning Year 2

Challenge:  Listen to the audio of me reading the morning message.  Can you read along as I speak?

Miss Writer's Morning Message

Today is Tuesday 2nd June, 2020.  I hope you had a very good first day back at Home Learning School!

I was wondering who is still writing a diary?  Yesterday, I was reminded of my diary and do you know what?  I hadn't written in it for a whole month!  So, I corrected that and I wrote an entry in it for yesterday.  Please go and have a look at MY DIARY.  I will keep writing in it for you and I would love to see what you have written in your diaries.

Did anyone manage to complete a family tree?  Did you get to speak to relatives and find out more about them.  I would love to learn more about what you found out if you would like to share it with the class.

You too can message me with your work and anything you would like to share.

Joke of the Day!

What did one volcano say to the other?

I lava you!

Fact of the Day!

Thank you to Annie for today's facts of the day.

Coots and Moorhens are small black waterbirds and you will see them by lakes and different bodies of water.  You can tell them apart because a coot has a white head and a moorhen has a red head.  Look at this video to learn more about them:

The closest relative to a dassie (the little sun-loving rat in the middle also called a hyrax) is an elephant.  They are also related to manatees!

Can you believe it?!

Start the day at 9am with PE with JOE

Morning Prayer

Father in heaven You love me.

You are with me night and day.

I want to love You always,

In all I do and say.

I'll try to please You Father.

Bless me through the day.

Your tasks today:

Activity 1 - Maths

Go to Lesson 2 - Making equal groups

1.  Listen to the video and answer the questions.

2. Open the worksheet below and answer the questions.

3.  Check your answers below.  Did you get it right?

Activity 2 - English
Read the Question Booklet for Day 2.

1. It’s story time

  • Listen to/watch the reading of Diary of a Wombat by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley
  • Look again at Text Types. What sort of writing is Diary of a Wombat
  • Agree that Diary of a Wombat is fiction, a story and a diary.

2. Spelling focus

Look at the set of jumbled Days of the Week and read each one aloud.

  • Cut up the cards and sequence the days correctly, Monday to Sunday.
  • On My Days of the Week, practise spelling each word. Use a ‘look, cover, write, check’ method to help you get the spellings right.
  • Remember that days of the week always start with a capital letter.

3. Writing time

Agree that Diary of a Wombat is told from the point of view of the wombat.

  • Look at The Dust Bath. Write a sentence expressing what the wombat thinks about having a dust bath: I had a lovely refreshing dust bath, which really cheered me up.
  • Would the family feel the same? No! Write a sentence expressing what the family feel. That annoying wombat ruined our barbecue!
  • Write sentences for wombat and the family on The Mat and The Door

Fun Challenge:

Write about a real or made up day in the style of The Diary of a Wombat – Morning… sat around in pjs. Afternoon... played in the garden. Got muddy. Went indoors. Add some pictures to your diary.
