Wisdom & Faith

Tuesday 9th June

Good morning
brilliant children.

Morning message - 09.06.20

Let’s start our day with a prayer.

Thank you Lord for this new day
in my home (school) to work and play.

Please be with me all day long,

in every story, game and song.

May all the happy things we do,

Make you our Father happy too.
Amen.

Join me for story time to hear our new read aloud called Whoever You Are.

  • Daily handwriting and phonics/reading
  • Grammar: Writing numbers 0-20 as words
  • English: Handa's Hen by Eileen Browne
  • Maths: Weight and mass
  • PSHE: Therapeutic stories to support children during COVID-19

Daily handwriting and phonics/reading: Please aim for 30 minutes (15 each) of handwriting and phonics and continue reading each day. smiley

Grammar: Match up the numbers to the correct word. Draw a link to link the pairs. Try 0-20 and if you would like an extra challenge you can try the extra pages up to 100!

English: Re-listen to Handa’s Hen. Read descriptive phrases about the animals in the story and think of other adjectives to describe these animals. Plan a new version of Handa’s Hen, using the original text as an example. Children will write this version tomorrow.

HANDA'S HEN

Maths: Today we are going to review our measurement knowledge on weight.

Review these words:
weigh, scale, heavy, heavier, heaviest, more than, light,
lighter, lightest, less than, balanced (same weight)

Introduce weight and mass

PSHE: Read below the two therapeutic stories to help explore strong emotions relating to the coronavirus and feelings related to a return to school during the pandemic. If your child is not returning to school, you can just read The Little Elf who missed his Birthday Party.

Parents: Please complete this activity with children to help in guiding the conversation. Follow the guidance for adults about this story in the PDF file.

Therapeutic stories are designed to help children explore and understand feelings. Read the stories below and focus on understanding the emotional connection with the story and characters.

Once you have read and had a discussion about the stories complete some pages in your little book of changes. You can choose which pages you would like to complete.

Parents: For children returning to school on the 15th June, please refer below for additional resources to support your child in preparing for their return to school. Please take the time to read through some of the social stories with your child and have a conversation to address any questions they may have.
