Morning Prayer – Hail Mary

Let us take this time to be GRATEFUL for all the things we have. I know everyone is going through a hard time. Let us try to focus on the wonderful things we have.

Thank you Lord for this new day in my school/home to work and play.

Please be with me all day long, in every story, game, and song. May all the happy things we do, make you our Father happy to.

Don’t forget to check out the following website to help with reading and phonics.

This is the RWI website - the books the children read in school and at home.

To help children learning to read at home during school closure, we are streaming phonics, reading and spelling lessons every weekday on our YouTube channel.

Each lesson is ten to fifteen minutes long and available for 24 hours.

From 1st June:

All lessons will be available at 9.30 am.

Set 1, 2 and 3 Speed Sounds lessons will restart.
Set 2 and 3 Speed Sounds lessons will include new words for reading and spelling.

Reading Comprehension

Open document below

Your child can sound out the words to read the story and the adult can read out the tricky words.

Then ask the questions provided.

You child can answer in a full sentence be speaking or writing.

  1. Read and or listen to the story: “Three Billy Goats Gruff”.
  2. Re-tell to the story ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’.
  3. What happens in the story? What do the characters do? What do they say?
  4. Make a story map to show what happens in the story. Use arrows to show the next part in the story.
  5. Your pictures don’t have to be the same as mine but they may give you some ideas.
  6. Remember that you can repeat the pictures for repeated refrains. Can you label your pictures?
  7. Remember to use your fingers when sounding out your words.
  8. I will also upload a document with pictures to sequence the story if you feel this is more suitable for your child instead of drawing.
  9. Note: We will be writing sentences about the story later in the week.

This week we will be learning about one more and one less.

  • Star words you will need: one more, one less, add, subtract, take away, count, number, object, number line
  1. Today we will be focusing on: one more.
  2. Choose a number card from 0-20.
  3. Find it and circle it on a number line.
  4. Show one more than the number by doing one jump forwards.
  5. Circle the number that you ‘land’ on. Say which number you land on e.g. “I started with 18. I did one jump forward on the number line. I landed on 19. One more than 18 is 19.”
  6. Repeat this for a variety of numbers.
  7. Can you show one more using objects?
  8. Challenge: can you show 2 more or 3 more? Repeat the steps above with 2 or 3 more (parents please only do this if you think your child is capable, if they are finding one more difficult, continue to practise one more. If you feel they are really confident with one more you can try two more).
Key questions: Can you show one more using a number line? Can you say one more than a number in a full sentence? Can you show one more than a number using objects?

Pencil control worksheet - aim for 2 pages a day.

If you can, print this or make something similar.
