Wednesday 20th May

Mr Griffin's Morning Message

Good morning everyone!

Today is Wednesday 20th May and the forecast is predicting another sunny day!

Q: What type of tree fits in your hand?

A: A palm tree!

I hope you enjoy the activities that I have set for you today.

Please pray with me

Let us start our day with a prayer:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,

hallowed be Thy name,

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done

on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day, our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those that trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Physical Exercise Time

It's time for physical exercise with Joe Wicks.

Activity One - Mathematics

Go to Lesson 3 - The 2 times-table

1.  Listen to the video and answer the questions.

2. Answer the questions sheet below.

3.  Check your answers.  How many did you get it right?

Activity Two - English

1. Looking at noun phrases

Open the Powerpoint on Noun Phrases below.

  • Read through it, revising nouns, adjectives and adverbs.
  • See if you can tell someone what a noun, an adjective and an adverb are. If you get muddled, re-read the slides until you are clear.
  • If you cannot open the PowerPoint, look at Revise Noun Phrases.
Now read the Question Booklet for Day 3.

2. Locating nouns, adjectives and adverbs.

Read the story of The Girl Who Cried... Monster!

  • Use one colour to highlight 10 of the nouns in the story.
  • Use a second colour to highlight 10 of the adjectives.
  • Use a third colour to highlight 5 of the adverbs.

3. Descriptive writing

Now read and enjoy the story, In Every Corner, which you will find at the bottom of the page:

  • Pick one of the monsters you really like the look of.
  • Copy it onto Monster!
  • Write a descriptive paragraph about your monster using adverbs and adjectives to describe nouns (...extremely long, greasy hair...very sharp white teeth).
  • Do the same things for another monster if you have time.

Challenge:  Think of the best monster hiding places in your house. On The Best Monster Hiding Places in MY House, list them, describe each and say why they would be so good.

Activity 3 - Music Break

Go to Ms Hume's Music Page and have fun joining in with her latest music session:

Activity 4 - Science

Over the next week, you are going to plan and write a non-chronological report on trees.  We are going to put together all of the information we have learnt into one information text.  Do you remember the report we planned and wrote on wolves?  The tree report will be written in just the same way.

This project will take you all of the half term so take your time.

1.  Read through the lesson on non-chronological reports.

2.  Start your research.

  • Start your research on trees.  Remember to take notes.  You can go back to some of our last lessons too. - all about trees - interesting facts - interesting facts

3. Start your planning.

  • Plan your title and sub-headings.  Use the spider-gram.
  • Are there any key words you would like to make sure you use?  Write a list of 10 words you would like to use.

4. Write your report:

  • Title, Introduction, Sub-headings, Interesting facts
  • Write your introduction.
  • Write your report.
  • Add a diagram of a tree - Remember to label it using the labels: crown, branches, roots, trunk, leaves, bark

Label the parts of a tree

  • Add some pictures of other trees and their leaves.  You could draw these or could also print them and stick the in your report.
  • Add some interesting facts about trees.

Please remember that, as with all of the activities, this project is for you to do, if you wish. I think it will be interesting to do it and I will not be setting you other tasks to do next week.

However, it is more important that you stay safe and healthy, happy and smiley.
