Wisdom & Faith

Year 5 Miss Kelly

We will be reading a range of novels including some CLASSIC FICTION. Our class novel this term will be The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S Lewis.

We will look in detail at various FAIRY TALES. We have read a modern version of 'The Three Little Pigs' called 'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig' looking at the similarities and differences between the two versions. We looked at the playscript, chose different characters  and acted out the fairy tale in groups. We were able to then evaluate each group and comment on how we can improve our acting skills. Have a look at our class gallery where you will see more pictures of Year 5 in action.

We will continue to read a number of Fairy Tales looking more in depth at Cinderella and various versions of Cinderella from different countries including;

The Blue Fish, Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters and Cinderlad. Our end of unit outcome is to be able to write our own modern version of Cinderella.

We will read a range of LYRIC POETRY, including works by Shakespeare. We will also cover some NON-FICTION genres including DISCUSSION writing.

Pupils will develop their ability to read ‘between the lines’ and find deeper meaning beyond the literal.  Pupils will develop their ability to explain things clearly using good quality sentences and will develop their ability to write reflectively and intriguingly.

Pupils will continue to enrich their vocabulary in order to become more precise in their use of language.
Our reading lessons will provide inspiration for our creative writing.  Children will develop their ability to plan their writing intelligently and how to get and keep the readers’ attention, using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. Pupils will continue to develop their joined-up handwriting.
